The Downtown Recovery Coalition held a press event in downtown Edmonton Thursday to announce their priorities for “a safe and vibrant downtown.” The group’s immediate asks were for more police officers allocated downtown, better patrols and security enforcement at LRT station entrances and to repair and better maintain sidewalks, roads, benches, garbage cans and other important infrastructure.

In at least two cases former Calgary police officers have investigated serious incidents involving members of the same police force for the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team or ASIRT. In both cases ASIRT did not recommend charges.

An Edmonton cop who hit the ditch twice while driving drunk on Anthony Henday Drive has pleaded guilty to impaired driving over 0.8mg% and received the minimum $1000 fine and a one year driving ban.

According to a Freedom of Information request the Edmonton Police Service have spent more than $4.2 million in direct cash payouts to cops for clothing, boots and dry-cleaning in the past three years. That’s $1.4 million a year for the last three years.

Documents released by the Edmonton Police Commission show that the Edmonton Police Service had plans to arrest Freedom Convoy counter-protestors en masse, but had no plans to mass-arrest anyone involved in the Freedom Convoy itself.
